This set includes the primary long arms used by both the Federal and Confederate infantrymen: 1861 Springfield rifle-musket: The mainstay of the federal arsenal. British 1853 Enfield rifle-musket: The most imported foreign firearm used by both sides during the war. Austrian Lorenz rifle: A foreign import prone to some fouling problems, but never-the-less a respectable weapon in the arsenals of both armies. 1842 Smoothbore Musket: This large bore weapon was devastatingly effective at short range, firing 69-caliber 'buck and ball' ammunition. Sharps model 1859 rifle: The most famous of the single shot breech loading rifles used during the war.
