Description: One of three regiments that made up the famed 'Irish Brigade,' the 88th NY fought with distinction throughout the war. Most of its officers were from the already battle-seasoned 69th NY Infantry Regiment and many of its enlisted men were veterans of the British armies campaigns in the Crimean and India. Aside from the utmost bravery, the men of the 88th NY were distinguished by the unique New York State shell jacket, which was issued to all of the New York troops of the Irish Brigade.
