Description:
Originally formed as an elite militia formation, "The Savannah Guard" went on to defend Battery Wagner in South Carolina as a heavy artillery unit. Despite being an infantry unit their uniforms bore the red flashings of the artillery. In the last days of the war "The Savannah Guard" was added to the hodge podge assembly of units that made up Col. Crutchfield's Artillery Brigade. They fought a valiant last stand at one of the wars last engagements at the battle of Sailors Creek.
